You Got Metal in My Showtunes!
We’ll have a full review coming later, but we could not wait to share this with everyone! “Dee Does Broadway” brings Broadway to Siafu Sounds by kicking in the door, 80′s metal style. Dee Snider, of Twisted Sister fame, has never been afraid to push boundaries. After all, “A Twisted Christmas” is one of our favorite Christmas albums. And we knew he had some Broadway chops after starring in “Rock of Ages” as club owner Dennis
Dupree.
What we get from “Dee Does Broadway” is classic Dee Snider, putting his twist on Broadway standards with seasoned Broadway vets. These vets include Patti Lupone on one of my favorite tracks of the album, a mash up of West Side Story hits “Tonight/Somewhere”
“The Ballad of Sweeney Todd” is also a rocking take on what is originally a fairly listless original tune. This version rocks with all the intensity and theatricality deserved in a musical telling tales of a murderous barber.
Any child of the 80′s or fan of Broadway should check out “Tonight/Somewhere,” “Sweeney Todd,” and “Music of the Night.” Better yet, just buy “Dee Does Broadway” now. You will not be disappointed.
We’ll be back soon with even more comments in our a full review of “Dee Does Broadway.”
